Deepawali
Alternate Name, Diwali.
The clear blue sky,
The scent of flowers,
The colours of Rangoli,
And the sound of crackers.
The gifts and sweets from dear ones,
And the getting of their love,
The light of the candles below,
And the dazzling fireworks up above.
Lighting lamps in our homes,
Making the less fortunate smile,
Putting on new apparels,
Show our friends some style.
Paying respects to the Heavens,
And decorating for them the thali,
This is what the occasion is all about,
This is the spirit of Deepawali.
Deepawali - The Festivals of Lights
The word 'Deepawali is composed of two words -- Deepa meaning Light and Avali meaning a Row. It means a row of lights and indeed illumination forms its main attraction. Diwali leads us into Truth and Light and is celebrated on on Amavasya - the 15th day of the dark fortnight of the Hindu month of Kartik every year. It symbolizes that age-old culture of our country which teaches us to vanquish ignorance that subdues humanity and to drive away darkness that engulfs the light of knowledge.
